PRESS RELEASE - Jan. 2012. Leket Israel's 2nd Annual Gala Dinner, held on Saturday night, January 7th at Eden Al Hamayim, honored Henry and Julia Koschitzky of Toronto. Nearly 700 people came out in support of Leket Israel's mission to reduce nutritional insecurity through the distribution of excess food to more than 60,000 needy Israelis daily. The evening, "From the Field to the Plate – The Right of All to Healthy Food" was dedicated to raising awareness and funding for Project Leket.
Leket Israel-The National Food Bank's 2nd Annual Gala Dinner that was held on Saturday, January 7th at Eden Al Hamayim honoring Henry and Julia Koschitzky of Toronto, where 680 people came out in support of Leket Israel's mission to reduce nutritional insecurity through the distribution of excess food to more than 60,000 needy Israelis daily.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of tons of produce are destroyed and in 2011, Leket Israel managed to rescue 9,000 tons of fresh fruit and vegetables for the needy. In a country where 20% live below the poverty line, Leket Israel ensures that excess food and produce get to those who need it most.
At the Dinner, the nearly 700 guests joined Leket Israel to mark nine years in their fight against nutritional insecurity. The evening, "From the Field to the Plate – The Right of All to Healthy Food" was dedicated to raising awareness and funding for Leket Israel's Project Leket, gleaning fruits and vegetables for distribution to the poor.
Gidi Kroch, CEO of Leket Israel, addressed the guests and alerted them to the fact that the new poor is the growing middle class. "A family where two people are working but do not earn enough to put food on the table," said Kroch.
